The List

So why IS gas so darn expensive? There are a lot of reasons, but somehow the biggest problem (as usual) points directly to Washington DC. Democrats yesterday in a subcommittee voted basically to kill going to the outer continental shelf to drill for oil because there are 'other things we can do'. Glenn Beck would like to introduce you to the people who are preventing us from drilling here at home, because, as Glenn says, these people should be famous. When the pitchforks and torches start coming out---we'd like to help clarify who was for or against us. Read the transcript.

Glenn Beck would like a lot of things.

We need to transition away from gas and oil, and as soon as possible. Any measure otherwise is at best a short term solution if not entirely pointless.

A large reason gas prices have risen is because of speculators. Oil tankers have become an investment. People buy an oil tanker, hold it off shore for a week, and then sell it a week later for profit. Speculators have drastically increased the price and altered the market for gasoline.

We need to move off of oil, damaging the environment for a short term solution is naive at best, idiotic at worst.

Of course we do need to move off of oil. And I agree, it ONLY makes sense to do so.

BUT,

While we research that and find ways (energy) that works! We need to take advantage of what WE HAVE and take advantages of our own resources.

It only makes sense to do so...rather than importing oil (bigger danger for environment that environmentalists should be up in arms about, but they are not sense they have an agenda) from terrorists harboring countries, countries that are controlling our economy etc., via the price, and how much they drill and put out, and so on and so on.

I agree. Find a better energy!

But while doing so, take advantage of the oil we have.

Primarily, because we wouldn't see a benefit from offshore drilling for at least 5-10 years. I agree, getting oil from the middle east is undesirable, but wasting resources and the environment on a short term solution that isn't even that short term seems inefficient to me. In 5-10 years, I'd ideally like to see a major shift in the auto industry to alternative sources, hopefully ultra-efficient gas vehicles and pure electric.

I acknowledge that that probably won't happen, and things will probably be like they are today, but I just don't see the inherent value in drilling within the united states (certainly in wildlife refuges like ANWR).

I don't think drilling in America would do anything for the price of oil (it's already such a controlled market, OPEC would just adjust their output). The only advantage is then that in 5-10 years we can maybe divert a fraction of the money we send to OPEC to the american oil companies. I guess that's better, but it doesn't seem like the benefit is worth wasting the resources to do it, not to mention the cost to the environment to drill in such places.
