Huckabee's Campaign, as improbable as it seems, is a magnificent demonstration of the sort of grassroots politics that I had only heard of as a Utopian myth in my civics courses. From soccer moms to entire homeschooling families, the Huckabee volunteer movement is fueled largely by Blue Collar Conservatives, union members with strong moral convictions, and Evangelicals with enough heart to view the working class and those who are less fiscally fortunate members of society as an area of untapped potential, not a "leech on society". Instead of your typical run of the vastly-industrialized-mill (which pollutes in someone else's backyard) yet "we don't want to ruin the economy so we tolerate the triple-eyed-fish", Huckabee's departure from White-Collar-Conservatism is a refreshing potential move for the Republican Party. If supported, Huckabee may in fact be the next Theodore Roosevelt; a likable yet somewhat populist politician with Conservative leanings. Too long has the Republican Party been dominated by the likes of individuals such as Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and Dick Armey (who wrote a recent article attacking Huckabee which can be read here) who believe that the Evangelical wing of the Republican party should add the words "and protect all of the interests of the wealthy" to those red letter words found in their Bibles. Newsflash to all the RWM (rich white men) of the Republican party who believe that stomping on someone who actually shares the faith of Evangelicals is the best way to control the "faithful-wing" of the Republican Party; nominate someone other than Huckabee or perhaps Fred Thompson, (at this point, unlikely) and expect a mass Exodus on election day.
The Republican Party of the current election cycle is a horrid mass of wealth politics and trickle-down economies that have no interest in the suffering segments of society. Huckabee, by seriously following Christ's example to reach out to those who were most at need and yet still hold on to Conservative morality is an excellent choice for President of the United States. Of course, the establishment doesn't want Huckabee to win. Why is Huckabee being dismissed or taken lightly? Disdain from those who either care only about money (RWM's) or seen as too right-wing to be viable by those who don't understand the power of the Evangelical vote. In the end, the Republican Party is wary of a candidate who isn't focused on filling their pocketbooks, and Democrats don't take anyone seriously who actually believes in Creationism. Both are good reasons to support Huckabee.

Free tuition for illegals, release over 1,000 criminals, $500 million in tax hikes without, cuts to counteract, "golden rule" applied for al qaeda, opposition to school choice, and $1 year lease for mexican consulate.
Sounds pretty Conservative to me.
Not so much.
The white collar has teeth.
The evangelical faker of a candidate has sheeple.
Not too early?
Crafty article and interesting. Here's my view, let me help some with Thompson's Senate Record, and what he voted for:

Voted for 4 major tax cuts
Voted for balance budget constitutional amendment
Supports line item veto authority
While in Congress, Country enjoyed a balanced federal Budget 4 years in a row
Voted against welfare for illegal immigrants
Supports Constitutional amendment for Congressional term limits and placed them on himself
Supports 2nd amendment
Supports a Flat Tax option for tax reform, member of the Flat Tax Caucus
Lot's to like about Fred – www.fred08.com, check out his issues page. Lot’s of substance, he actually has detailed plans that don’t contradict his past positions.
Oh yeah... he also isn't afraid to address SS and entitlements publicly. That takes guts, refreshing… huh. He also doesn’t need Chuck Norris to make him look tough, or require a truth squad to help clarify his positions – past or present. This isn’t a popularity contest, we’re nominating a President!! SUPPORT FRED THOMPSON!!
God I wish Fred could surge ahead. And hell he very well may on Super Tuesday and could become the front runner. He sure would be the best. If it isn't him I'll just stay home or vote third party I guess.
Come on Fred!
Mike Huckabee is a slick-talking corrupt liberal.
He would lose in the general election, anyway. His 15 minutes are up, go back to AK!
"God I wish Fred could surge ahead. And hell he very well may on Super Tuesday and could become the front runner. He sure would be the best. If it isn't him I'll just stay home or vote third party I guess."
I think thats a dream. Fred Thompson HAD a shot before he entered. He was the big candidate everyone was talking about, however after entering he just did nothing.
He's been very lazily going after this, and recently I've even heard rumors that he doesn't really want to put in the work to get elected, he just decided to run because his wife wanted him to.
While I'm sure thats not 100% true, I think the fact that he skipped a debate in order to officially announce at Leno speaks to how much effort he really wants to put in.
He just never really seems like he's trying to me... which I suppose is good, because I think he very well might be the most "republican" of the republican candidates. At least traditionally republican. All the other candidates have at least a few qualities that make me think of them as weird nominees for the republicans in the general election.
Of course, clearly being a liberal, it could be that I just simply don't understand republican politics.
Hey didn't this blog used to have some post on Obama? Sorry I haven't had the time to frequent this site in the last week or two, but I seem to recall quickly clicking over here, seeing some drawing of Obama, and figured the post must be enlightening.
Being an Obama supporter I was looking forward to reading it, perhaps I was just confused
Took it done for now. Was eclipsed by this man love for Huckabee.
"Being an Obama supporter I was looking forward to reading it, perhaps I was just confused"
Why do you support Obama? What are his polices? What is the change he speaks of?
"Why do you support Obama? What are his polices? What is the change he speaks of?"
I responded to this but must have gotten the word verification wrong and not noticed before closing the tab, so here is my abbreviated response:
-Health Care
-Middle class tax cuts
-Rolling back upper class tax cuts
-Iraq War
-General Foreign Policy
-General Domestic Policy
And for change:
-Openness
-Wrote about doing cocaine in his biography. I don't like the doing the cocaine, but the fact that a politician openly admits to it without it being discovered is refreshing
-Wants to have all bills published online before voting, including who added what. No more adding pork without putting your name on your pork. The public knows who does what.
Hell I am convinced! OBAMA '08!
"Hell I am convinced! OBAMA '08!"
Hold on there! Before you make that commitment you should know his middle name is Hussein. Yes, thats right, his middle name is Hussein.
Anyway, glad to have another supporter on board! When can I expect your picture to change to you wearing an Obama shirt, and you to write a critical post about the slander piece fox did a few months back?
I wouldn't hold my breathe.
Well Eric, Huck did his job didn't he?
