I was sitting down to watch some of the Colbert Report today. Not because I find Colbert funny, or even mildly amusing. He definitely seems to be a worn out replay of Jon Stewart's already bland "The Daily Show". As I watch, I notice that almost every other joke is directed as an attack on either Christians or Conservatives... but I notice one thing is lacking... attacks on Islam. However, he did find it proper to attack Christians and Conservatives for having a "National Day of Prayer", held a Christian-mocking prayer. I remember a day when Liberals used to say "To each their own", and held tolerance as the virtue above all other virtues. That hasn't changed. What is tolerated has. As this nation becomes increasingly more polarized, I have found that liberals have begun an assault on Christianity, simply because of the sheer demographic facts... that Christians vote Republican, and Atheists vote Democrat. In a world where the freedom to believe what one wants is so important, it seems that some seek to attack the religious beliefs of those who they politically disagree with, if only to demean them, and to create an atmosphere of disrespect for the... faithful.
Although I'd be no means consider myself puritanical, or without my own sins, I noticed in recent Bible readings that the Christian has a reason to take heart at all the attacks made against them. According to Romans 1, society will inevitably embrace things such as homosexuality, adultery, hard-heartedness, anti-religion, envy, and even self hatred.
When one looks at the path that the United States has taken, from the devoutly religious founding fathers, to the less religious early 1900's, to the separation generation of the 1960's... to the increasingly hostile to religion present, we can see the winds changing.
My point of this post? Keep your eyes open. Liberal or Conservative, mainstream attacks on religion is harmful to the freedom and tolerance that this country claims to so strongly support. Tolerance is an all-way street. If someone claims to be tolerant, they need to be tolerant of someone elses intolerance, and those who specifically disagree with them. I know a lot of Christians aren't the easiest to get along with, oh do I ever. That doesn't mean it is ok to demonize the devout. That people have more faith than us doesn't make them blind, it doesn't make them foolish, it doesn't make them wrong. It is the substance that a person believes that is either right or wrong, not the political winds of disapproval that make it so.
Something I found funny... with the rise of people who believe in abortion rights... and the lower amount of children they are having... the United States is eventually going to have an electorate made up of the Catholics who refuse to use birth control, and have very large families... the ideology of the left is dying by default, as they don't reproduce at very high rates...
Some questions for you, for this Friday...
Why do those on the left support things such as assisted suicide and abortion rights, yet oppose the death penalty?
Why do those on the left claim to support the separation clause, but not the free excercize clause?
Why has there become an increase in the "blame America first" argument from the left?
Why have there been an increasing amount of those who feel that liberalism has left them... or has singled out and attacked white males? -See the most recent pressing of Time, back page, for an interesting article on the evolution of liberalism in the United States.-
Come back tomorrow!

I personally only support abortion rights and assisted suicide rights because it has to do with what one is doing with their own body (and what is growing inside of it). A body that they did not ask for and should not need to fight for rights for. To make laws about what one can or cannot do to their own body is a little absurd. If you want to stop things like abortion and assisted suicide, you must go to the heart of the situation.
Use facts and moral arguments to prove your point, not legal jargon. That won't even begin to fix the problem.
Now, in the matter of the death penalty, it is the state taking away a life. Not the life (or life-bearer) itself. This is an infringement on a person's right to life, even if it means living out a life in prison. I personally think that a person on death row should be able to choose life in prison or death, but I don't see that happening any time soon...
I agree with most of what you've said, although you should keep in mind, it's just a comedy show.
They're political first, comedic second.
On a show like that, that shouldn't be the case.
And I haven't ever seen them make fun of Islam. Examples please Shatnermosism.
Thanks.

The judicial branch has the right to take away certain freedoms and rights of the individual as forms of punishment. You have the right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness, right? Well your right to liberty is taken when you go to jail (as well as some of your persuit of happiness, I'd say). The judiciary branch also has the right to take life, then, as a form of punishment.
Transphysixed, I never said that they didn't have the legal right to do so, because it's quite obvious that they do. Haha. I just think that should be changed. But thanks for the information?
