I've heard a lot of complaints about "inconveniences" at airports ever since security tightened up. Complaints about TSA being racist, unfair, and intentionally doing "extra" screening for Arabic looking people. I have half a mind to slap someone up-side their head for complaining about any of that.
First, everyone submits to being fully searched by accepting the terms on the ticket and using it. (see delta) The airport is doing you a favor and trying to speed up service by not fully searching everyone. Second, profiling is not racist. Security is not being selective because they hate you or your race, they pick those that look like the highest risk. In this time period, and more so a couple years ago, Arabs were some of the highest risk profiles for obvious reasons. Third, let me cite a few examples of other places this is acceptable: insurance (and it affects your cost!), police searching for a suspect, oh, and let's not forget about EO and affirmative action. (note sarcasm on last reference)
Also, those same people say it like they're the only one's getting extra treatment. Please, come back to reality. If they actually paid attention it's about 1 of every 10 that have to do the extra stage, that's a lot of every type of profile. I myself, have been put through the extra screening every single time I flew, which is quite a bit. I was supposed to be exempt because I'm military, but it's just more hassle to correct them than to just take 10 seconds to do the 2nd screening. Being a large, intense looking white guy, I can understand why they always choose me. Hey! I'm white, quit being racist, TSA! Sound funny? Good.
It's not an inconvenience, you're not being punished, and it doesn't take long at all. I'm not saying it's impossible for TSA to be intentionally racist, just highly unlikely. Complaining about this instantly denies you any respect in my book.
